My work is a journey of exploration and reflection upon my own life, materials, texture, colour, pattern, shape and form. Through my own travels, from east to west, I have experienced changes in the way that I view my work and the world around me. This visual experience, at times, has been in darkness and often in silence. For several years, I viewed this as a negative experience that gave me the impression of being lost. However, now that time has passed and my journey has continued, it is clear that these lost years have been voids, that I refer to as moments of dark circles in my life, the feeling of hollowness and emptiness.
The specific images and issues, that I have reflected upon within my own life, have subsequently dictated the materials and repetition of texture, pattern, colour, shape and form. How things where, in what way they existed and how they have gradually developed into natural round organic shapes with a pattern and smooth texture. The round shape and form that I have developed, symbolises equality, everything fixating around a central core. My experience allows me to view them as metaphors for life’s everyday rituals that exist in tradition-bound societies. They encompass the simplicity and perfection of theological and cosmological. |
