Mrinmoy Debbarma was born 1982 in Agartala, Tripura. He graduated with a B.F.A. in 2006 and M.F.A.in 2008 from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University Santiniketan. A Lalit Kala Awardee, Mrinmoy has participated in many exhibitions. His work centres on the production of violence and it’s presence in the very surface of things. He recognizes the violence of consumption, often disguised in the form of innocence. He pays a great deal of attention to the proliferation of media generated images, cartoon and comic strips to children’ toys. With these elements, he doesn’t aim to celebrate on a level of pure, formal experimentation neither does he settle for an obvious statement, ironic or metaphoric; Instead he creates a montage of images, often overlapping each other, where the world of play enters the world of violence.

While bringing these aspects together over the canvas; he also seeks to upturn the relationship between the predator and the prey. Mrinmoy secured a scholarship to study for six months in France in late 2008.

Mrinmoy lives and works in Santiniketan.
