Swapna Biswas was born 26th January 1982 in Kolkata. She completed her Graduation and Post Graduation from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University in Painting 2006 and 2008. A recipient of the prestigious Elizabeth Greenshield award, she subsequently received numerous national awards. She has exhibited her works throughout India. Swapna projects the duality inherent in human nature, the shadow side of life juxtaposed with the humane elements. The psychological narrative unveils the violence as well as the beauty, tenderness and compassion. Her use of color is bold and imaginative with exquisite and sensual detail. She communicates directly depicting herself as the main protagonist connecting at the same time with the images in her work and directly with the viewer. The emotions range from sexual provocation, soft sensuality, decorative and natural beauty.  Latterly, as she has moved from the rural region, where she spent seven years, to the metropolitan city her canvas is loaded with the irrelevant paraphernalia of modern life as well as the modern hope which resides in the faces of those looking to their future. Throughout her own figure stands bold and defiant daring to state the truth of society as we know it today as well as the universal truth of human nature which has always been known but rarely openly expressed.
